Why We Look at Plants, in a Corrupted World

The problem
Hu Fang’s essay explores the relationship between humans and plants through themes of nature, medicine and spirituality. The challenge was to translate these abstract ideas into a visual language that complemented the writing without overpowering it.

The solution
Flowing typography, extended kerning and word spacing create a sense of freedom and spirituality. Inverted photographs of nature resemble X-rays, connecting themes of medicine and healing with our relationship to the natural world.
